Your First Scan
Ultrasound scan use sound waves to image your baby. The scans are completely painless and have no known side effects. Your first scan is likely to be at six weeks. Usually you have to undergo scanning for 4 times in the journey of your pregnancy.
Early pregnancy scan
- To confirm and to locate the pregnancy
- To confirm the viability and estimate the Expected date of delivery
- To know the number of babies and to find out uterine and adnexal pathology
NT scan between 11 to 13 weeks
- To rule out neural defects
- NT to look for fluid collection and other soft markers.
- Conjunction with Down syndrome screening
Anatomical survey at 20 to 22 weeks
- To rule out major congenital malformations.
- Location of placenta
Growth scan at 36 to 38 weeks
- To assess the growth the fetus, estimated birth weight and fluid volume.
